I used to think that I didn't have an ounce of school spirit in me...
Today at the basketball game (my very first in my three and a half years at Cal) between the Arizona Wildcats and our very own California Golden Bears, I learned that maybe even I have some school pride. I seriously had a good time, watching the game from the bench (so close!) and rooting for the home team with my fellow Cal brethren.
The game was great from start to finish. Lots of excitement and emotion... A barrage of shots from beyond the arc and a few gravity-defying dunks that brought "ooh's" and "aah's" from the stands... There were a few nail-biting moments, but when all things were said and done, the California Golden Bears prevailed. And as the final horn sounded, the crowds rushed the court in a frenzy.
This was probably my favorite part of the night because of what happened in those few minutes that I was on the court. I was probably one of the first people out there, and as I was running toward the players, I lost my right slipper. There was no turning back for the slipper, because the whole world was stampeding in my direction. So I kept going toward the players and I ended up "trapped" in something like a mosh pit, surrounded by a crowd of people pushing and shoving and trying to make their way to the players. The temperature instantly increased with so much body heat, and it stank of body odor and bad breath. If that wasn't bad enough, one of my feet was "protected" by a cheap Old Navy slipper and the other was barefoot. So you can imagine that my feet got stepped on numerous times as people ran and jumped and acted like wild beasts... Yikes... When the crowds started to die, I went back and started looking for my lost slipper. The funny thing was that there was another guy who was looking for his lost slipper too. We looked at each other and we connected... I'm sure of it! Hahaha...
What a crazy night!
(Oh yeah! Carmelo Anthony, Andre Miller, and Francisco Elson were in attendance at the game! OK...I didn't quite see Miller and I still don't really know what Francisco Elson looks like, but I did see Carmelo! I'm seeing celebrities left and right!)
Much thanks to Eric Hwang for allowing me to attend a Cal basketball game and to participate in something that is so much fun! The freshmen in my small group are great!
